“Textural 3-D paintings that capture the viewer by jumping and sweeping straight off the canvas in synergistic overtures of visual delight.”
To capture this feeling in my paintings, I meditate prior to beginning and listen only to inspirational music & motivational speakers from materials to completion. I painted this series on hand made large scale canvases. The size of the canvas alone has you stand back and look. I then place uplifting words on the canvas before beginning each painting that correlate to the colors and images that I am painting.
I am a painter as well as a sculptor and love to mix the two mediums together. To get the 3-dimensional effect desired, I use thick resins on the canvas, an extremely thick mixture of texture gels and anything else that comes to mind mixed with deep rich colors of mixed acrylic painted flat. This concoction together with gravity, my hands, spatulas and any other tools I may think of, gives the dramatic rough peak look of the pieces. As paint is added to the canvases in vivid shapes, I combine pieces of glass and mirror, metal and wire sometimes wood, found objects or natural stones specifically put together for each piece giving it a very distinctive and unique look that also ties to the imagery and intent.
The world is a combination of optimistic and pessimistic views filled with intensity and power. To show that integration in my art, I use the difference between the texture and the flat surfaces of the canvas to make large swirls and shapes of positive and negative.
Seeing something different in the world around you depending on how you feel at a given moment is paralleled in my art by the intensity of the colors between the flat and textured areas and the inserted objects. It draws you deeper into each piece, wondering what you may find next just as each new day you will find something new depending on your outlook.
I find myself still going up to a piece and wanting to touch it, to feel the energy created in the form of art. My objective in this series and creating art in general is to give you something positive, unique and unusual each time you look at each of my pieces. Concluding, the Growth Series is a combination of what I see in the world and what the world has to offer depending on how you look at it.
